Monique
My name is Monique, and together with Joe, I am the co-founder of Jorema Portugal. My own search for a house and land in Portugal was the direct reason for starting this company.
After living and working in several countries, I settled in Portugal a number of years ago. The country enchanted me immediately, the warm hospitality of the people, the breathtaking landscape, and the relaxed pace of life made me realize: this will be home. My dream? To find a suitable piece of land to build a house and a horse stable. It turned out to be a huge challenge. The search cost us not only endless back-and-forth travel but also a great deal of time, money, and effort.
We experienced all sorts of things: sellers or agents who didn’t show up at the agreed location, appointments that were moved at the last minute to a week later, when we had already left and were on our way home.. We encountered unexpected issues, such as illegal construction or registered homes without the proper residency permit, problems we, coming from northern Europe, didn’t even know existed.
When Joe, a fellow horse lover from Germany, also wanted to move to Portugal,of course with his horses,we continued searching together. For two years, we looked at everything. Houses that were in a different location than stated in the paperwork, plots of land with incorrect boundaries… you name it, we came across it.
That frustrating, yet ultimately very instructive, experience is the foundation of Jorema Portugal. Precisely because we know how exhausting, confusing, and costly it can be, we want to make that process easier, more transparent, and more reliable for others. And because we’ve personally experienced how special life here is, we want more people to be able to find that same feeling without the hurdles. Our mission is simple: to use the hard lessons we learned to significantly shorten your journey to your dream place in Portugal, so you can enjoy what this beautiful country truly has to offer.
Joseph
My name is Josef. I spent most of my professional life working as a flight attendant, traveling across all continents. Portugal has always held a special place in my heart – I came for the climate, and I stayed for the people and their friendliness.
In Germany, I ran a part-time agricultural business for many years, specializing in horse breeding. This gave me a strong understanding of the necessary infrastructure as well as the geological and geographical conditions required for keeping horses and animals in general.
I am also passionate about real estate. Over the years, through my own property searches, I have gained extensive knowledge, which I now enjoy sharing with others.
